What is Air Tightness?

Air tightness measures how well a building prevents uncontrolled air from escaping or entering. Proper sealing improves energy efficiency, cutting heating and cooling costs, while enhancing indoor air quality and comfort. This results in a better performing, healthier, more resilient building and can help your building meet energy performance standards.

Air Tightness Consultancy

Our consultancy service offers expert guidance from the early design phase, optimising your project for success. We work closely with your team to incorporate best practices that minimise air leakage, lower operational costs, and enhance indoor air quality and building durability. Ideal for teams seeking certification in rating systems like Green Star and WELL.

Air Tightness Testing

We provide blower door testing for residential and commercial projects, using diagnostic equipment to measure and identify air leakage in the building. This is crucial for verifying if the building will perform well and meet the client’s expectations. It's also a mandatory requirement for rating systems like Green Star. During testing our ATTMA-certified testers (Air Tightness Testing and Measurement Association) will identify areas for improvement.

Air Tightness Reporting

After testing, we discuss your results and offer a detailed report, complete with easy-to-understand graphical information to convey the results and recommendations for improvement. For projects where formal documentation is required we also provide an ATTMA certificate.

Why Air Tightness Matters

Poor air tightness leads to energy loss, high heating and cooling costs, reduced occupant health and comfort, and lower building resilience. Effective sealing ensures optimal thermal performance, extends the lifespan of HVAC systems (Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning) the building itself, and supports the well-being of occupants.

When is Air Tightness Testing Performed?

Testing is normally performed after a build. However, in the case of renovations or additions, existing buildings can also benefit from leakage inspections during construction, when improvements to the design are more cost-effective. We work with you to ensure the best timing and impact of these inspections.
